Kanaval (2022-23)

Set in the early 70s, Kanaval follows the story of a young boy and his mother who settle in a small rural village in Quebec after hastily leaving their troubled hometown in Haiti. The young boy counts on Kana, his invisible friend from his birth country, to understand the new world around him.

Filmés en immersion dans leur environnement scolaire, 34 élèves font dialoguer leurs relations d’amitié avec leur professeur. À travers le témoignage audio et l’animation visuelle de leurs dessins, les enfants dévoilent les souvenirs intimes de leurs amitiés passées, leurs difficultés d’intégration et leurs rêves d’adultes.

In the year 2020 all untapped minerals in the bowels of the earth were diluted and transformed into poisonous gasses by the Aqua Regia Storm. Expelled through every open pit mine on the planet, the gas leak killed around 80 percent of the total world population in less than a month. 50 years after, located in what was once Northern Quebec, the New Abitibi Independent Communities Confederacy (NAICC) faces, together with many communities around the world, the challenge of building a new global system.
